Intern Opportunity – Writing For Don Charisma

I blogged yesterday about collaborative SEO. Working together entirely makes sense to me, and is exactly what a lot of successful bloggers are doing.

Danny and I have been discussing a writing project. Either of us can do it, it’s a question mainly of timescales.

We want around 30 technical articles written, on topics such as web design, web development and search engine optimisation. The articles will be informative and although technical written such that they are very readable by most people that would be interested in the topics. We already have an idea of the titles, the content and the the keywords. The articles will be used on our websites and promoted through our syndicate network.

Our thoughts are that there’s an opportunity for a writer to hone their skills on a real project, with “real clients” (Don Charisma). Personally I’ve often found that without a “real client” it’s difficult to “practice”, having a real scenario therefore is a big opportunity to learn and to prove yourself.

Writing Internship

Requirements

1. You are very capable in written English, and have some kind of technical background, or at least can hold your own in writing an article on a techinical subject.

2. Age, race, religion, politics are unimportant to us – So open to all. Within that we expect an open mind.

3. You are passionate about writing, confident enough to have your writing in the public eye and well, no easy way to put this, not lazy.

4.  You have time enough to be able to give the project the attention it deserves. So good time management is required.

5. Graphic design experience (or willingness to learn) would be a massive plus, but not essential as we can take care of graphics.

6. Personable – you like interacting with other people, and collaborating.

7. You have your own blog or website, that you currently write on

8. You are able to assign us full copyright for any writing that’s done during projects that you’re undertaking for us.

9. You’ve a very keen interest in promoting online (a must), blogging (optional) and as already said writing (a must)

10. You have a brain, can think laterally/creatively in solving problems, able to offer solutions, but also able to work within a rigid structure.

11. You can follow simple instructions, precisely.

12. You can work unsupervised and are self-motivated.

13. You’re pretty cool person, by all accounts if you’ve made it this one and answered yes to everything, then you are. Danny and I are fairly easy going and flexible.

14. You’re not looking at us as your meal ticket to success, fame or fortune, you realise the opportunity you’re being offered and want to grab it before someone else does.

Duration

Around 30 articles at present, average maybe 1000 words per article, give or take. Would depend on how fast you can write !

Beyond that, if we work well together with you, we have an unlimited number of other projects that we’d be happy for you to take on. There’s a possibility of paid work later on, but please do not apply if this is your main goal, we can’t promise and I don’t like to break my word.

Benefits

There’s no salary or expenses, it’s entirely unpaid, and there’s no job at the end of it. This does not constitute a job offer and we would not have an employer/employee relationship with you, you would be entirely a volunteer.

You will have however direct access to Danny and myself. We’re happy to answer any questions related to blogging, and working online. We’re happy to give you advice on how to promote your own blog (or website).

Give and take are essential.

References

Not required. Instead we want you to write a short article on why we should choose you. It is competitive in that I will post the submissions on DonCharisma.org blog, and I will put it out to a public vote. The person who gets the most votes will be favoured in our selection process, but we take all factors into account when choosing the successful intern.

Application

In the first instance, please make initial contact via a comment on this post. No need to be creative or clever at this stage I just want to know who wants in.

Warm regards

Don Charisma

  1. I think it’s a good idea, but actually I’m studying English. I hadn’t technical background and graphic design experience. However, I would like to work with you on future projects.

  2. I’m definitely interested in putting my hat in the ring for this one. I can write (well, I hope I can!) and have some technical knowledge though I don’t profess to be an expert in such things. I am a very quick and committed study though 🙂

    1. Hat accepted Heather … I have you at a virginmedia.com email address ? I’ll send you an email over, but give me a little time as I haven’t drafted yet 🙂

      1. Yes, that’s the correct email address, Don. No worries re the email, I am looking forward to hearing from you 🙂

  3. This so awesome:-) wish I had time to intern. On another note, if you ever need a secondary set of reviewer eyes for any IT thing, let me know. Almost ten years as an IT tech writing for private and government. Not looking for cash, just a notch to add to my business resume😊

  4. Hi Don. I can write and I “have some kind of technical background,” Also I’m taking baby steps in blogging and realizing quickly that pictures help tell stories. Definitely intrigued.

  5. Hey Don – sounds fantastic!! I am with ma’am vicbriggs on this one hey! Tech is somewhat a conundrum for me. I can dabble but my knowledge is not enough to string together a cohesive article 😉 SUCH a great opportunity! Good for you for doing this.

    1. Thanks … and in the first instance, just make sure you’ve read and understood ? … I have you at a gmail.com address, so give me a little time and I’ll send you and email to get started on the selection process … warm regards Don

    1. Ok, and thanks, consider your hat accepted … I have you at a aol.com, give me a bit of time and I’ll put an email together for the selection process 🙂

  6. This is a great idea and it’s awesome you guys do this kind of thing. If I were more tech savvy, I would apply! Good luck guys!

    1. Thanks. We may do more internships later for non-tech savvy writers, so please do keep an eye out for the next one if it’s something you’d be interesting in doing 🙂

  7. Hey Don, what sort of location base are you looking at? I live and study in Australia, I just started a blog, which is still a new experience. This looks like an opportunity for me to gain more experience. I love to write and I study Science (Cartography and Geospatial Science, Remote Sensing combined with a bit of IT).

    1. Ah, sorry I should have said, location is unimportant, and actually Australia puts you close to my time zone … I’d be happy to include you in the selection process, I have you at a yahoo.co.uk email address, is that correct ?

  8. I really would be interested if it is still available! I think that the experience would be amazing. I am currently writing on my own blog. Feel free to check out my writing to see if I would be a good fit. 🙂

    1. It’s still open, I’m horribly behind on comments 🙂 … I have you at a yahoo.com email address, I’ll put an email over and send it to you …

      1. Great! I have not yet received the email, if you could send it again that would be great. Thanks!

  9. Sorry Don, wish I could help you. I’m working on my last song for the new album. Hope to have it released by the end of April.

    1. That’s ok Leslie, this is just the first one, so you’re welcome to apply for later ones should you be able to commit 🙂 Warm regards Don

  10. This looks like a very interesting project and I wish you every success. Unfortunately, as a zero-techie-backgrounder I won’t be able to contribute anything other than my best wishes 🙂

    1. Thanks Vic, that’s very thoughtful … we might do some other internships later with zero-techie background, which you’d be welcome to apply for 🙂 warm regards Don
