The Big Antivirus Lie | Rob Braxman

In response to my post about some cyber-security and privacy options, the question of anti-virus like Norton, McAfee, AVG etc came up.

Rob Braxman is one of the only people I trust (in as much as I trust people) on these issues, and he did this video, which you may find helpful :

Key insights

🚫 Antivirus software cannot stop zero-day malware and may actually expose you to more threats, making it a trojan horse for intrusion into your device.
🕵️‍♂️ Antivirus software could potentially be used as a tool for surveillance or manipulation, as it has the ability to read, forward, delete, or modify emails.
💼 The controversy surrounding Kaspersky’s spying accusations highlights the potential risks of using antivirus software developed by foreign companies, especially when it comes to government agencies and sensitive information.
🤔 An antivirus exposes a greater attack surface, providing cyber attackers with more avenues to attack a user compared to those without one.
🚫 The antivirus software, while intended to protect, can actually introduce severe dangers by granting admin access to the computer if it is beaten by malware.
🚀 The framework tool called Metasploit enables the loading of malware directly into memory, bypassing the need to write it to disk, making it harder to detect.
🕵️‍♂️ An antivirus is essentially a man in the middle, seeing more than you expect and potentially compromising your privacy and security.
🕵️‍♂️ The advice to distrust antivirus software comes from the cybersecurity industry itself, with evidence from WikiLeaks and personal experience.
