Tesco, Watford, UK – Pasta shelves are completely empty. It was a similar sight in the tinned food aisle, and some of the others. The in-store pharmacy had completely sold out of paracetamol.
The store manager (the guy in the blue shirt in the photo) was quite rude and aggressive towards me for taking the photo, which has never happened before to me in the UK. I ceased and desisted for a quiet life. Not quite sure why he would be annoyed at me taking a photo of empty shelves, maybe he didn’t buy any for himself and now there’s none left ? Or could just be he’s an asshole. My guess is the asshole theory.
The checkout guy was a complete contrast, we had a chat about wearing masks and beards etc. I guess he was bored and having a chat with someone beats scanning items and collecting money, all day, over and over again, just to fill the pockets of his globalist overlords, so they can afford their Krug, Foie gras and Caviar.
Anyway, enough of saying what I actually think, here’s the photo :
Taken about at 15:30, 13-Mar-2020 UK time.

I see the pic. We have some of the same situation here. Too bad about the nasty manager, sometimes the worst of times brings out the worst in people.
I guess there’s more pasta will arrive, and we won’t all starve to death. The manager, well, like you say too bad.
Similar here. A dite pitiful, really. Folks are spooked. I just hope this doesn’t give anyone ideas to loot. I keep hoping to wake up and there is civil society.
It;s first time we’ve had this kind of strife on our doorsteps for decades. And, yes sentiment shared, I hope it doesn’t lead to worse things than the virus itself,
Godspeed. Here’s to hoping it blows over yet. I remember H1N1, I thought Co-Vid would be like that, but this feels different. People are in worse mental shape than they were then, I think. More fragile and worn down.
Same. And yes after a series of difficulties, I’d say people are generally more fragile and worn down, certainly I would have been much better shape in 2016 or 2007. Still we thwarted a despot in WW2, against the odds, so, as it’s said, life goes on.
Indeed it does.
Plenty of food in my Tesco, but not a single toilet roll to be had!
LOL, yes it’s coronavirus joke of the week, worldwide loo roll shortages, the Australians were first I think … In asia they have a “douche” type of water spray (like a shower head with a trigger) next to the bog, and I’ve found that works better than loo roll, so use that more these days.
beyond a joke, people panic buying for no reason.. the virus doesnt affect your back side..lol
I don’t think toilet paper has any nutritional value either … still, it seems like some people use a lot of it.
Welcome back to Europe, Don 😀
I went out to shop as usual, not bad shopping, but I had same kind of experiences here in Spain today. Empty shelves, no meat, not many vegetables or fruit either. Everywhere empty…
It seems like people are scared to starve to death, when they should more worry about the Corona virus.
Take good care of yourself.
Thanks Irene. It’s damn cold in London !
And yes does seem like people are worried about not having food, and less worried about the virus.
Take good care too, speak soon
