To be honest I thought Microsoft had abandoned the ICE (Image Composite Editor) project (circa 2011). Imagine my surprise when I discover they’ll released an improved version 2. AWESOME !
For those of you who don’t know Microsoft ICE, it’s a panorama stitching software that’s FREE. Panorama stitching allows the merging or joining of multiple photos to create one larger image.
AS I recall the previous version only had three projections (A projection being how the images are warped to fit together) … Microsoft have added a bunch of new ones including my all time favourite – “Mercator“. What I like most about Mercator projection is – for sunsets and landscapes, it usually results in the minimum amount of crop wastage, when cropping to square edges.
Microsoft have done a short promo video :

I also did a couple of posts on Panorama stitching software, that may be of interest :

Summary
Microsoft ICE v2 was released recently. It’s much improved over the previous version with an improved user interface, and additional projections, plus more !
It’s highly recommended for download, and experimentation with stitching panoramas … what have you got to lose – it’s free 🙂
Cheers

Wow, those are some impressive new features!
Yes, I’m impressed actually, especially considering it’s free … well done Microsoft, I take back what I said !
