People have taught me a few smilies along the way, and I generally pass on the favour and teach others. Most of you will have noticed that the smilies on WordPress.com have changed. They are now vector graphics and have a flat design look.
The announcement on the WordPress news page says there are some secret smilies – “Bonus: We also created a few secret emoticons for you to discover. Good luck finding them! 😉 ”
Now I can’t be 100% certain that this is the entire list, with all of the secret ones on, because I don’t have access to the WordPress.com php code. But I think it’s fairly much complete. Christine Jaydee’s post confirms this (see resources section). The ones that I found are – developer, burrito, martini, mindblown, whiterussian and wordpress.
If anyone would like to enlighten me on any missing one’s I’ll gladly update.
I’ve also checked in several different places to get all the variations I can find for “what one types on the keyboard to get the smiley”. For instance a standard smiley could be :) or :-) or :smile:
Again if anyone knows any codes that I’ve missed please do let me know.

For what it’s worth, on my blog I decided to disable smiley replacement and do it myself manually, using the Yahoo Messenger animated smileys. Main reason being this new set is utterly hideous and hard to tell apart one from another. Another reason is the heart code breaks everything with my Comet theme because of the left angle bracket used in it which is erroneously read as an opening tag.
Well that’s awesome, and yes I wanna add to the list ! … I’ll have to check out momface too …
And yes they could do better with these emoticons, a wider range for a start, and the graphic design would be better less flat, but isn’t that the fashion these days ?
They said the new faces are vector graphics which as far as I know cannot be animated. Personally I consider the Yahoo Messenger emoticons as the best that can be, also considering the range of possible expressions. But here’s the copyright issue slapping all of us in the face. 😦
I’ve also had an issue with the ‘heart’ emoticon where a couple of subsequent hearts would just clear all the text following the first one until it finds a ‘closing tag’ (the ‘martini’ code would be appropriate). Apparently the < in the second heart emoticon is erroneously considered as a tag start and it will hide everything until the first > encountered or the end of the text. That’s pretty lame, IMHO.
Talking about flat, I guess some brain surfaces are quite flat nowadays and that effects way too many people around the world… (that’s me being mean
)

Yes, I’ve noticed similar issues with them messing up my text … so I generally mostly just use this one 😀
WordPress are pretty good for improving things sometimes so lets hope emoticons 3 will be all that we want …
And don’t worry about mean, it’s cruel that annoys me …
