Sunset Over Lake Panorama, Zurich Switzerland, Sep-2011

I stayed in Zurich for a few days on business and visited my friend Sal who lives near Zurich. He took me a for a lovely walk near his home and sun was setting as we passed the lake. Some beautiful colours.

I only had my old iPhone 3G with me, which is only 2 mega-pixel camera, and not great individual photos. Again I love the ability with photo-stitching to merge several photos to make one awesome one.

I stitched together with three software packages (Windows 7 x64) – Microsoft ICE (Free Yay!), Canon Photostitch and Photoshop (Photomerge), results are very similar.

Conclusion

PTGui was unable to stitch these photos, not sure why.

For dark photos like these there isn’t that much difference between the finished panoramas, all software produced very beautiful results.

  1. Great sunset shots. I’ve also been in Zurich, but it was many years ago while on business. I don’t remember much about it. Thanks for stopping by photomania, and for the follow. I am humbled and delighted.

    1. Hey ron, you’re very welcome, it’s my pleasure … I’ve been Zurich quite a few times, mostly business but some pleasure too … it’s interesting place to visit, not sure I’d want to live there permanently though ….

      1. I understand that living in Europe is quite expensive. I don’t think we could afford it. We lived in Germany for three years in the early 70s. Things were different back then. 🙂

      2. Yup, Europe sure is expensive, probably some wage inflation due or overdue … I’ve only been briefly in Germany, school trip when I was in school, passing through on the way to Austria … Austria, lovely, beautiful mountains, scenery 😀

  2. Zurich is a beautiful city, I have been there several times with a blast from my past. Visiting as a tourist would be nice but I must say being there with an insider of the city is the best way!! Loved swimming in the river…. Eating in the best take aways and shopping in the cheaper shops…. Yes there are actually cheap shops if you know where to go. Fabulous pictures!!! Brings back old memories

    1. Been there a few times, initially was out there for work, and actually all trips have had a business element. I made friends with my colleagues and visit them when I’ve been there. There are cheaper eats, hotels, shops etc, but takes some looking around and a local guide is almost invaluable.

A girlfriend of an ex-work college showed me around the hilly bits either side of Zurich and it’s certainly a pretty city, albeit a bit cold for my liking in the winter.

The lake pics were on my old iphone which is now lost/stolen, and realised I could make a nice panorama if I stitched together 🙂

      Warm regards

      1. You should try going there in the summer and jumping down of one of the many bridges for a swim… It took some persuasion but was worth it!

      2. Sounds awesome, and would take me time to pluck up the courage, so you’re not alone on that !

I’m fairly sure I’ve been there in the summer, but it’s always been on schedule, so not much time for crazyness:)

  3. Thank you for liking “Open Colleges Interactive Brain Map.” I enjoyed looking at this panorama and learning more about how to create them. I have seen a few panorama photos before this one and wondered how they were made.

    1. You are most welcome. It’s not terribly difficult to make a panorama, someone even told me he’d done his in his Samsung Note III phone, looked very good. I like the ability to be working with a 60-200 megapixel camera on a $700 iphone vs a $35000 Hasselblad camera. Presumably I’d get better results from the Hasselblad, but I don’t have $35000 to spend on a camera (at the moment) LOL keep in touch, Don Charisma

    1. You are most welcome, I’m thinking about doing a post just on Panorama software/making panoramas, it’s a little bit niche, but something I’ve learn’t a little about and enjoy doing:)

    1. Hey Luke, I had a look at ribbet.com looks interesting and a good solution for free photo editing. Is it actually possible to stitch photos together in a panorama, I wasn’t able to see by looking at the website ?

      Warm regards
