well “cheer up”, which in this context means something like “smile” or “improved mood” …
Why cheer up when being attacked woundedly?
Because she knew the person was desperate and on the ropes politically if they had to resort to character assassination … or put another way, it was an indicator she’d won politically, the other party probably making themselves look bad by attacking her personally …
