2. Machiavelli’s “Il Principe” or “The Prince” is well worth reading. When you connect his work to European and Italian history, especially the period between 1200 and 1500 you will find out that his work sort of reflects his time.

   Europe was politically unstable for centuries. Power and wealth were sometimes a matter of life and death. As Machiavelli explained, sometimes rulers had to be cruel and sometimes rules had to be kind. Between the two though, a plan B was always required to survive.

   1. Yes I enjoyed reading, although for a short book, there’s a lot to take in … I find it very interesting as I think concepts then are still very applicable now … and having a plan B, very good idea !

5. You do know that Machiavelli was not just some person doing good works or bringing positive inspiration? He was a member of a powerful court in his region that could decide over life and death.

   In the context of his time and the history of the Italian city states you do have to be careful in what you quote of him. Whether you take him serious or not, Machiavelli was not a saint.

   1. I’ve read “The Prince”, was an interesting read actually … and no I haven’t studied Machiavelli in micro detail, so thanks for cluing me in 😀
