At least that’s who I’m guessing they are from having watched Monkey the TV Series – http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monkey_(TV_series) and it seems there is a whole Chinese story behind them.
Pleased with myself on this one for being informed about who the figures are.
Hopefully my resident Asian culture expert will be able to verify this. He’s been very helpful in filling in the gaps.

Hi Don,
Yep, it is a Buddhist legend called Journey to The West and there are numerous adaptations, from Hong Kong films (two parter featuring Stephan Chow, who also produced a recent remake this year) to Japanese anime (Saiyuki) and drama (the ever popular Monkey). There’s also a PS3 game, Enslaved, which is based on the legend.
Hey bck, I think it must be a very good story for so many performances, I’ll have to give it a read sometime … Thanks for the additional info and good to hear from you again 🙂
Warm regards
DC
You are right about the characters, no gap for me to fill anything in. haha
To give further notations, judging from the fact that you are in Thailand I guess the figures refer to the original in the Chinese novel “The journey to the west” not the show’s haha. I can feel a big generation gap here: the series was broadcast 10 years before I was born 😀
LOL, you know what they say about assumption !
I figure there’s an original Buddhist story behind the show … nice to have got one right anyway 🙂
Thanks for all your help filling in the gap, it’s very useful 😎
I never watched Monkey (okay maybe once or twice to laugh at the hideous dubbing). 😉
Great photo. 🙂
Thanks… I used to watch it, enjoyed it actually, and isn’t dubbing usually hideous ! In fact the most hideous of all dubbing is when they put foreign voice on an English movie and no subtitles, completely unwatchable !
