DonCharisma.com - Liddle - Love, Hope and Doing Something. I think a man only needs one thing in life. He just needs someone to love. If you can't give him that, then give him something to hope for. And if you can't give him that, just give him something to do.

Don Charisma – What motivates men? Love? Hope? Purpose?

I think a man only needs one thing in life.
He just needs someone to LOVE.
If you can’t give him that, then give him something to HOPE for.
And if you can’t give him that, just give him something to DO.

2004 Flight of the Phoenix Movie

Doesn’t quite fit on a tweet:)

1965 movie looks great and is on my list of movies to see. 2004 movie included this line, which is very true for me. It’s simple, easily understandable, and says it like it is. Wisdom for those who like things simple!

Here is the whole quote :

Frank Towns: Why give people false hope?
Liddle: Come on man. Most people spend their whole lives hanging on to hopes and dreams that are never going to come true but they hold on to them. Why are you going to give up on them now when you need them most?
Frank Towns: You are assuming I’m one of those people who has hopes and dreams.
Liddle: I find it hard to believe that a man who learns to fly never had a dream.
Frank Towns: Look, how can I let those people build that plane when I don’t believe it will work? And, every day they waste trying to build it brings them one day closer to dying.
Liddle: I think a man only needs one thing in life. He just needs someone to love. If you can’t give him that, then give him something to hope for. And if you can’t give him that, just give him something to do.
[James tosses the water bottle back to Frank and walks away]
Frank Towns: James, you’ll never make it.
Liddle: Then I’ll die trying. There are people counting on me.
Frank Towns: Okay, Okay, Okay. Okay. We’ll build it. Just come back with me.

  1. Thought the movie was actually quite god. But then, I’ve not seen the original so I can’t compare them. I remember the quote which is what caught my eye as a scrolled down your home page.

    1. Appears it’s not an original quote, it’s one of those quotes that been floating around forever and nobody seems to know the exact origin. I reckon there’s a lot of truth in it, it rang a bell when I heard it. Having a great relationship with a loving girlfriend/wife/family and a fulfilling job, are happier circumstances than just a fulfilling job … that kind of thing … I want to see the 1965 version, which from what I understand doesn’t include this quote, but I reckon the acting might be better LOL

Thanks for your comment and contributing.

      Sincerely

      DC

    1. Couldn’t agree more, the film lacks lustre in many areas. Personally I like a story line to flow, this one doesn’t. I want to watch the 1965 version and see if any better. I blogged about it because of what said not because greatest of movies:)

  2. This to me was something inspiring to read. Lately I’ve almost given up on my dreams. Guess I just need something to do, being unemployed these days. Thanks for a great post 🙂 n inspiring me.

    1. Hey vishal, my pleasure my friend, when I saw the movie, this inspires me with it’s simple truth.

Don’t ever give up on your dreams, take a break by all means life throws in all kind of difficulties, but keep going when you’ve had a break.

      Sincere regards
