Nighttime Rustic Fairy Lights (For Noel)

A picture taken at night captures the beauty of nature and lighting elements in a unique way – creating an otherworldly ambiance that transports the viewer to a different realm. The soft hues and natural setting contribute to the serenity of the scene, inviting one to immerse themselves in the moment and forget about the worries of everyday life. The photo frames the power of imagination, reminding us never to lose sight of the magic that surrounds us even in the most mundane moments.

Sigma 56mm f1.4 lens, on A6500 APS-C body, minor contrast and saturation adjustments, but pretty much straight off the camera.

  1. I have taken a lot of photos on my digital camera with a Lumix lens of fireworks and also Christmas lights. I have captured some really good ones as well as some complete failures. But it’s fun to see the results. Your photo is very colorful. It could get the imagination working.

    1. Just something that caught my eye as a capture, ideally, tripod for night shooting … but this was off the cuff, and was travelling at the time, so, limited equipment.

The image stabilisation has improved over the last couple of decades, I remember a friend trying to capture NY eve fireworks, maybe 15 years ago, felt a bit sorry for him when we looked at them at home, 100% blurred.

Practice helps. As does a very steady hand, or tripod.

Another issue I’ve experienced is (I think) “low dynamic range”, so the lights seen to the eye are very colourful, and then, camera washes all the colour in the photo … but that was an evening shot, I think there was still some backlighting … had to give up in the end, couldn’t find a setting on camera to get a nice capture.

Anyway, best not to take it too seriously, the fun part goes away 😉

    1. Thanks, that one was specially for you.

Best of 5 or 6 shots I think … and even then it’s a little blurry, really should have used a tripod or monopod, but didn’t have one with me.

      1. My pleasure Noel 😉 Only a couple of months to go now till Christmas.

Will try post some more photos, as and when opportunity presents itself.

  2. Nice, Don. I’ve taken a few night photos but mine were not as good as this. Of course, the only camera I had with me was the one on my cell phone. Okay, but not so good.

    1. It was the best of about 5 photos, it’s quite difficult to take pictures at night in low light, as cameras are all about light. Best practice would be to use a tripod.

I used an old iPhone to start with, but gradually moved to actually cameras over the years – one thing they say about photography is – “it’s not about the camera, it’s about the camera you have with you” – meaning, with practice, people can take nice and lovely photos with most cameras, just takes practice and patience, AND that if your camera is at home, you don’t get the photograph at all.

Good luck to you, best wishes.

      1. At one time I had a great camera with lenses that would get closeups of anything. A Sony if I remember correctly. Learned to develop and print my photos in the bathroom of my house, but today I can’t remember what it looked like. And yes, I had a tripod as well. I wish I still had those photos but like everything else, they are gone forever, lost in one of my moves. The camera is also gone, and I mean really gone after I dropped it on a slab of concrete. Shattered lens, broken fastener, and a roll of film exposed. Not my finest hour!

      2. Well, nothing lasts forever, and change they say is the only constant. I think in the end, being grateful for life and what we do have, is a blessing.

And, yeah broken plenty, lost plenty myself, some losses are more painful than others.
