I spent a holiday in Thailand in autumn 1975, loved the country, particularly Chiang Mai in the north. It had undercurrents then as you’d see army trucks full of soldiers roaring past in Bangkok and sadly many of the students I met were killed in the army coup in 1976.
It’s an amazing country, even with all it’s problems, it’s warm, relatively inexpensive and the people generally happy and friendly, and a lot of them decent people too. Sorry to hear about your friends, there are some unpleasant things that we experience in life:)
