      1. Hey Don , Thanks for following my blog ‘ The Intangible Guru’ , though have been tardy with it for the last few months owing to some other pressing issues.
I see that you are quite a multi faceted personality yourself. Keep it up.

      2. Hey, thanks for following my Slightly Spiritual blog – looks like you got a lot of reading to do! Love the photography.

  4. Hi Don, Thanks for the follow, love your pictures. I think the pink flower with the cables in the background could be a Rhododendron but then i could be totally wrong. Your blog is so different and eclectic to mine i wondered what had attracted you? I do appreciate the follow being a very new blogger.
    Magpie

    1. Hey Magpie … you could be right about the flowers, but the tree is quite tall and I though Rhododendron was a bush … not a botanist !

We’re all writers and publishers on wordpress, so it’s the people that attract me more than what a blog is about 🙂

      Warm regards

      1. They can get very large, ive seen some at over 20ft!
They grow very well in England and Ireland, theyve become something of a nuisance in places.
        Cheers 🙂

  5. Hi! Thank you so much for following my blog:) it’s pretty amazing to see people with blogs as inspiring as yours follow me. Hope that you have a nice day and that in your free time you can look at some of my posts!

      1. And a drinker too. Good man.

Back to your post: once we begin talking about music, e.g. on here, we are no longer merely engaged in the performance and appreciation of music, we have entered the sciences. I have a particular interest in mentality, quite apart from whether or not it furthers my music intentions and I would refer you to ‘The Emperor’s New Mind’ by Roger Penrose, one of the foremost mathematical physicists the world has produced. (It’s a study, amongst other things, of whether or not we will ever produce computers that can emulate the human brain. He thinks not.) He states that we do not have a theory of consciousness (and therefore of art appreciation – my words). I mention this because, however keen we are to find answers to questions such as those posed by the present discussion, we can only expect to devise general trends to guide us, unless we take up the science of it all.

      2. LOL, all things in moderation 🙂

Don’t quite know how to add to that John … for me art appreciation is something I understand better in my feelings than in my thoughts, I get a feel for the colours I like in my photos, and what feels good and what not … feelings aren’t all that scientific, so hard to join you in the science realm … however what I would say that some believe only this moment actually exists and the past and future aren’t real … so someone looking to “predict” the future, under this understanding, is like someone trying to predict the outcome of a random event … and something so undefinable as conciousness, well good luck in computerising it, I reckon some genius will do it sooner or later … and lastly if it’s after my lifetime, then it’s not really something I’ll worry about too much … Terminator is just a story

      3. I’m just a keen amateur in the sciences but I’ve learned how often words such as ‘beauty’ ‘imagination’ and ‘intuition’ feature, even in mathematics. Einstein wasn’t the very best mathematician around but it was his extraordinary insights that made him such an important figure.

And of course Richard Feynman’s ideas cause ideas about the future to become more complex than we expected.

      4. We have two sides of the brain, so that we’re able to feel and think … and don’t they say that we don’t seem to use 80% of our brains ?

      5. The way the brain works is truly amazing. Although different parts of the brain are said to have different functions, in reality the whole ‘machine’ kicks in when problems are solved and the brain changes continuously in response to stimuli. I’m not sure of the exact percentages involved but there’s no doubt you’re right about our not using the brain to its full potential.
