Reblogged this on beckyeloise.
Thanks 😀
You just said. In simple terms, one has to have self discipline and respect their principles at all times.
😀
I be t’inking…
If you do not know what you stand for… you just never going to be anything more than a tumbleweed.
I mean HOW many people are leading the way forward without even really knowing that they ARE doing that? JUST by being WHO they are and standing up for what they believe in?
Great comment! It shows you can stand up for a big cause, but also for your healthy values.
Thanks Roxana 😀
Yeah, I think so, I HOPE so!
We all have to be leaders in SOME way at some points in life right?
I guess even ‘just’ being an adult is being a leader. What better way to do so than to know ourselves and what we stand for and just BE that for the kids in our world 😀
I dunno, but sure you’re gonna tell me 😛
..probably…. 😀
This ought to be in a country music song. Oh, wait …
and when they do, they are persecuted. I am not JC, I don’t have that kind of patience or whatever it takes. tell your friend ELI I said good one.btw. you should not stand in front of whatever that is, it makes you look like you have huge ears. jus sayin.
LOL … I can see this is silly day today … more’s the better 😀
I wanna see you singing that on youtube now 😀
There are a few people that decide they want to be leaders, but I think most simply become leaders from their own development – some, like Kennedy, were raised by their parents to be leaders – no decision on their parts.
That’s a very relevant point … back in my days working in IT, my boss often said that he’d prefer to be doing the actual work, as opposed to running the team … he was however one of the best leaders I’ve ever worked for 😀
I have this weird notion (that I must have learned from my high school film class) that we are not born leaders. And we should not become them. Granted some people do have a knack for towering over others and being more vocal, we shouldn’t strive to do so.
In a film crew, no ones really more superior than the next. No one is truely a leader because its all just artistic teamwork. You would think a director is the leader but directors are not more of a leader than a producer that budgets the $$, or a scout that gets the locations. I mean even the rolling credits show the Unit Production Manager’s name first.
So I don’t particularly connect with this quote since I truly believe the entire notion of being a leader is a bit too…odd. But maybe it’s because I don’t peg myself as one..who knows.
I love your take. Brilliant
Why thank you (:
This is only in the case you feel like standing up for something. What you describe seems more like managing and organising. And these activities are not really leading. Although just getting to shoot the film, it must have taken some leader abilities.
I don’t believe that would be the case. It’s not standing up for anything. A lot of things are truly just teamwork. For example, Quentin Tarantino’s first film was Reservoir Dogs. A low budget indie film that was first only screened at Sundance. Being a director AND an actor, you would think Tarantino was the leader to beginning the film. And yet he wasn’t. Harvey Keitel (the dude who played Mr.White) was the one who took Tarantino’s script and convinced him to push for the production of it. Sure, the action was managing and organizing, but looking at it objectively, Keitel and Tarantino (and the rest of the crew) put in a great amount of teamwork to get the feature done.
My point is, with a film, there really isn’t any leading. And in the large scheme of life I don’t think anyone is truly a leader. Some people are just more vocal than the next guy. It’s the power of suggestion, being the first. Because I mean is Barack Obama a leader or just a figurehead to promote and suggest what should occur in America? Figurehead. He’d be no where without Congress. And are “good” parents leaders in the eyes of their children or just the closest relatives a child has got that have the right to suggest what life decisions their child makes? I don’t know but to me, my mom is just someone I look to for her suggestions, not as someone to lead me.
I’m rambling, my fault haha. I just don’t think “being a leader” is a good…trait(?)…or should even be a thing.
It depends on how you are and what you want in life and mostly, the cause you want to lead for.
Agreed.
To each their own, I guess. 🙂
Indeed : D
‘Fraid it is “a thing” that’s unlikely to disappear anytime soon Lissy … the world simply would work without leaders 😀
You are standing up for what you believe in, which is what the quote is actually about … and ironically, this actually makes you a bit of leader yourself …
@Roxana Florina Popa … good clarification 😀
Thank you : D
Thanks for sharing, and yes there are situations in life we’re it’s team work … can be preferable … and it’s nice that you have work situations that you’re being treated with quite high status by the sounds of things …
However there are other situations that have to have a leader … student divers however talented need to “be led”, they simply can’t dive by themselves to start with …
Also, virtually every country in the word has “a leader” …
So, whilst I get what you’re saying, and agree … I don’t agree that there’s anything odd about the notion of leader, or that leaders are unnecessary 😀
And PS, the quote is actually about having principles and standing up for them … the leader part is actually a side-issue 😀
Understood (:
Very fitting for everything that’s occurring in the world today.
I don’t know, maybe its my connotation of the word “leader” that makes me focus on it so much. It just sounds as though you’d be towering over someone else. And I really don’t look at life in that light. Everyone is rather standing at the same height to me. Although yeah, “leaders” are certainly not unnecessary, they are a guidance to others, but if anything, we are all our own leaders. Perhaps the only thing we lead is ourselves.
The best leaders I’ve know personally are much more like friends … I think the word you might be looking for is “tyrant” … a tyrant can be a leader, but often not a very good one 😀 … so take the word leader in positive context then perhaps the quote will make more sense 😀
Yes thank you, I drew blanks. I mean the quote makes sense regardless (: I’ll just always disagree that people are “leaders”. But I do completely agree with the quote if it’d omit “To be a leader”
Thing is people have different meanings for words, based on their own experience … language semantics … so discussions can break out, often I find a dictionary solves the discussion … for instance, from dictionary.com :
leader
1. a person or thing that leads.
2. a guiding or directing head, as of an army, movement, or political group.
It doesn’t however say anything about how the person leads, whether he’s (or she’s) a tyrant or not, whether they’re a good or bad leader, nice person or not …
It also doesn’t talk about status, generally good leaders keep their status only just slightly above those they’re leading so it can feel like a peer relationship to those who’re being led.
For me it’s a positive word, leaders and mentors have enriched my life, as do I aim to enrich others when I’m leading 😀 … and yes of course I’ve met leaders who’re assholes too …
… and no I’m not going the omit “To be a leader”, it would be misquoting the original author !
… and no I wouldn’t teach you to dive if you disagreed that I as the certified diving instructor was the leader … without me as leader, you as my student would be in danger, so not a situation I would accept … also you’d be putting the lives of my other students at risk if you didn’t accept me as the leader … so that’s a situation you’d either have to accept me as a leader for your own safety or not do it at all …
Bottom line, you disagree all you like, and whether you recognise them or not, there are leaders all around you. You’re one yourself at times too 😀
