The most successful men in the end are those whose success is the result of steady accretion. It is the man who carefully advances step by step, with his mind becoming wider and wider, and progressively better able to grasp any theme or situation – persevering in what he knows to be practical, and concentrating his thought upon it. This is the man who is bound to succeed in the greatest degree.

  1. I like the part of the quote “persevering in what he knows to be practical, and concentrating his thought upon it.” There are a lot of self-help books that tell us how to succeed in life. But in the end, it’s a judgement call. We will have to decide by ourselves what path we should take from the myriad suggestions given us by the Internet and the publishing world. In life we are given a “city map.” But we will have to choose the route we take, the set of roads or streets we should trod to reach wherever we want to go to.

  2. I do so absolutely enjoy this one. It is evident so very often. FAR too many concepts simplified into one statement. Sigh… concise – in other words! 😀 We live and learn ey. Knowing is one thing isnt it? IMPLEMENTING – now that takes some planning and steady work AND that adapting to any theme or situation.
I expect practice is paramount too.
    Great quote Don!

    1. Thanks Belinda … concise vs verbose, each has their time and context … I guess the overall plot for the lord of the ring could be written on a napkin, but the verbose version is the real story 😀
