DON CHARISMA, Fats Domino in Amsterdam, Fats tijdens zijn optreden in het Concertgebouw *3 november 1962, Fats Domino, Antoine "Fats" Domino Jr., Rock and roll, boogie-woogie, New Orleans, rhythm and blues

“Blue Monday” is a song originally, written by Dave Bartholomew, first recorded in 1953 by Smiley Lewis and issued as a single, in January 1954, on Imperial Records (catalog # 5268). The single, with a slow-rocking beat, features an instrumental electric guitar solo by Lewis.

It was later popularized in a recording by Fats Domino in 1956, also on Imperial (catalog # 5417), on which the songwriting credit was shared between him and Bartholomew. Most later versions have credited Bartholomew and Domino as co-writers. The baritone saxophone solo is by Herbert Hardesty.

Classic Bob Marley. Couldn’t decide which version I prefer, so I posted both (second one is 12″ extended about 12 minutes). …. But, on balance I prefer the second version.

“No Woman, No Cry” is aย reggaeย song byย Bob Marley and the Wailers. The song first became known in 1974 from the studio albumย Natty Dread. This studio version used a drum machine. The live version from theย 1975ย albumย Live!ย was released as a single and is the best known version; it was included on the greatest hits compilationย Legend, and was recorded at the Lyceum Theatre in London on July 17, 1975 as part of hisย Natty Dread Tour.

Papa Was A Rollin’ Stone – The Temptations

Another oldie but classic. I think it’s an official release by Motown aka Universal Music

“Papa Was a Rollin’ Stone” is a song performed byย Motownย recording actย the Undisputed Truth. It was written byย Norman Whitfieldย andย Barrett Strongย in 1971, and released as a single in May 1972. It peaked at number 63 on theย Pop Chartsย and number 24 on theย R&B Charts. The song was included on the Undisputed Truth’s albumย Law of the Landย (1973).

Later that year, Whitfield, who also produced the song, took “Papa Was a Rollin’ Stone” and remade it as a 12-minute record forย the Temptations, which was a number-one hit on theย Billboardย Hot 100ย and won threeย Grammy Awardsย in 1973. While the original Undisputed Truth version of the song has been largely forgotten, the Temptations’ version of the song has been an enduring and influential soul classic. It was ranked number 169 onย Rolling Stone’s list of theย 500 Greatest Songs of All Time, one of the group’s three songs on the list. In retrospect, the Temptations’ย Otis Williamsย considers “Papa” to be the last real classic the group recorded (it would be the Temptations’ last number one hit and would win them their second and final Grammy Award in a competitive category).

Blog Update And Coronavirus

I’ve been doing my best to pass on useful information regarding Coronavirus, as it’s the right thing to do (especially as fakestream media et al continues to lie). Also the situation is now obviously a pandemic, and a very serious situation.

I will try and keep up updates as and when I have time, but I do have a busy period ahead, that may prevent me from posting and answering comments etc, for a few weeks.

I have already shared many links for information sources, you can view all my Coronavirus posts here :

Thank you for following my blog, all the likes and comments – appreciated.

Born To Be Wild – Steppenwolf (+Photos !)

(Experimental)

After some hours of trying to make a still photo slideshow with ffmpeg, I gave up. Some of the features are missing on the Windows version, would probably have been easier using Linux.

So I used the inbuilt video editor in Windows 10 to take a bunch of still photos, add music courtesy Steppenwolf. Then finally added my watermark of DonCharisma.org with ffmpeg.

So, long story short – it’s some photos I took, with music ๐Ÿ™‚ Experimenting with a different format for presenting my photos – rather than a long page of photos.

“Honey For Nothing” – Guest Blogger – UnionHomeStead.com

UnionHomeStead and I had some chats recently. I visited them on my “day off” and really liked their blog. Sorry I don’t know all your names, and it’s no worries, in these days where privacy is rare ๐Ÿ™‚ (Google and FaceBook I’m looking at you)

They are Kiwis from New Zealand, running a smallholding, growing their own food and raising their own animals (and kids and children !). All as ethically as they can.

Some concerns where expressed to me, about being a guest blogged (presumably because of exposure to 39000 followers) – but I promise it’s really nothing to worry about. I’d say 99% of those following are nice people, or at least the ones that I’ve had the privilege to converse with. WordPress.com is much friendlier social network than Twitter etc., kinda why I”m still here.

Hopefully, my guest blogging UnionHomeStead.com will bring them some more followers and friends. They are nice people, feel free to pay them a visit, say I sent you.

Honey for Nothing…

Having been asked to guest by The Charismatic One is both incredibly flattering and hugely terrifying. What to write was the number one concern because here is where we confess to being *whisper* utterly, completely, totally disjointed from the world around us. Well, perhaps that is overstating things a tad. Way back when the Homestead was but a twinkle in two bright-eyed kids visage, we were rather proud of being up with the play and in the know. We had some pretty set ideas on ‘Right’ and ‘Wrong’ and we weren’t scared to scream ahem…speak them. In fairness, Maggie, Ron et al did give us plenty of fulminating fodder but we fumed with relish; waving our placards from our tiny piece of the planet. That is, right up until the little Homesteaders started along.

Intelligent Spam, Picking Best Photos And My Social Media Links

I remember I was quite offended at the time. It was fairly soon after I started my blog in 2014.

I have respect for your intelligence and wish you good luck.

(Kind thanks toย drwilly ofย drwillylip.wordpress.com for a most excellent insult)

I came to realise, It’s actually a reasonable comment. A reasonable question to ask oneself. Sometimes criticism may seem harsh, but, it can be some of the best advice one will ever receive.

It’s a question I ask myself when I’m writing or sharing – is what I’m creating enriching people’s experience of life, or am I just creating “Intelligent Spam” ? Am I sharing something people wouldn’t normally see ? Am I distributing information which is interesting ? and so on.

Huawei – How To Pronounce ?

(That’s enough blogging for one day – time for some downtime)

No need to tell me the right answer, I’ve heard it on TV relating to UK 5G deal with Huawei.

But when I first saw the name on a phone in the phone shop … well … I tried to guess :

“Who are we”

“Who a wee”

“Who’re wee”

“Who way”

And then I’m joking with a friend, and I’m like

“Who the hell are we ?”

(It’s funnier if you try to pronounce it in English out loud)

Kind of ironic though, with the controversy surrounding the company, and then the UK government striking a deal with them, whilst the rest of the world don’t want to touch them with a barge pole.

Comments invited ๐Ÿ™‚

ffmpeg One Liner – Still Photo + Music File = Video File

ffmpeg is one of the most powerful video/audio enoding/decoding/etc tools out there. It’s been around for donkey’s years, and used by amateurs and pros alike.

The main downside is that it’s a command line only tool, so if you’re not willing or able to “get your hands dirty” then probably just do a next on this post. If you want to to try it out, there’s plenty of guides accessible via Google et al which will shine a light on the path for you.

ffmpeg is available for Windows, Linux and Mac. ffmpeg has codecs included for just about every photo/audio/video imaginable. As one comment I spotted online eluded – ffmpeg is very very smart, more than people give it credit for.

Posting Copyright Music On Your Blog Via YouTube

Recently I moved my old videos from WordPress to YouTube to free up storage space on my blog, for posting photography later.

I wasn’t quite sure how YouTube would deal with the fact that the music included in some of my videos is mainstream and copyright. I thought this was a big no no on YouTube.

As it turns out, I was wrong – it’s OK, you can post copyright music without getting banned etc from YouTube. Only thing that will happen is that the video will get marked as containing copyright music. The rub is that you won’t receive any monetization. *Nothing bad will happen.*

I thought about it for a while, and actually I don’t care, my videos would probably only clock up a few views anyway – so monetization isn’t something of any importance to me.

The other thing is videos can be set to unlisted, so they don’t appear in search. What that means is it’s just your blog viewers who can access them via the special link provided by YouTube (not shown in any search).

So copyright owner isn’t actually going to make any money from you posting the video, which is fine for me (of course if you actually wanted to give the money to the copyright owner, you can set the video as listed for search in YouTube)

So, could be a good way to share music you like with your followers – just a suggestion/tip. Might be helpful to someone. I will likely use the facility again later, as sometimes I can only find poor quality versions of pieces of music (on YouTube) I’d like to share, or I can’t find the particular mix/version that I have in my own music collection.

It’s simple to merge a single still photo with music (easiest way to do it). Or if you have video you can merge the video with music.

I think I used Photoshop to do mine. Also Avidemux I’ve used in the past – it’s free, and pretty easy to use. Plus plenty of others out there.

Feel free to leave a comment – what’s your favourite video editing software (preferably free and easy to use.) ?Especially like to hear what Linux users use for video editing, as I’m using Linux more and more these days.

Cheers

Don Charisma
