Not my usual style, but I’m told variety is the spice of life, and I’ve never blogged my breakfast before.
Here in Thailand I can get some pretty nice French bread, these ones are submarine rolls cut in half and toasted. It’s a chewy sort of bread so I’m assuming sour-dough which I do truly love. Sour dough is not made with normal yeast, it’s a special yeast batch that is made with the flour. Basically the flour is fermented the natural yeasts multiplying. Part of the batch is used in the bread making that day and part used to “seed” tomorrow’s batch, with more flour and water added. There are tales of batches that span back decades.
On the bread I put butter, which here is Allowrie, Australian I think. Not totally convinced of how much I like Australian butter it’s a bit floral in it’s taste. British butter I’m afraid is the best I’ve had, apart from possibly Danish. Onto that generous lashings of Nutella, if memory serves me correctly they are owned by the same company that make Ferrero Rocher the nutty chocolates. “With this Ferrero Rocher you are really spoiling us” always springs to mind, which is probably because I watched their advert on TV like a gazillion times. Also interestingly I just spell corrected “gazillion” which seems to be a valid word, who knew ?
The coffee here I can get pretty decent ground coffee relatively inexpensively. I bought my own coffee grinder (and blender) for around £6/$8, so can grind my own if I buy beans. The cup my girlfriend bought for me, it’s got Mickey Mouse on it, hence the “Mickey Mouse-Orama”. It’s a good size mug, man size, full size mug, but not so big that it’s “glutton” size.
And lastly the drink is a sweet lime soda, called “Manoa Soda”, generally in the bar you have to ask for “Schweppes” and this will be the same drink, well hopefully that is ! … They’ve changed the format the the drinks can/soda can here, it’s now a red bull type of tall can, versus the fatter dumpy can that preceded it. Why the change I have no idea, the cans contain exactly the same amount of drink.
So, here’s my breakfast from the humble abode of Don charisma :
Taken in Thailand (c) Don Charisma
I’m like Laura. I love bread but I’ve had to start removing it from my diet. Not sure I would eat the same as you for breakfast but it was interesting to see. And yes, Allowrie is Australian.
Thanks, and yes I may have to at some point reigning in the waistline may be a good idea for me !
lol
Yum! Makes me drool. I just started a regimen of “healthy eating” which doesn’t include bread. Argh! I love bread!
Would make sense Laura, and I’m with you hun 🙂
🙂
First post I read this morning, And now I’m craving Nutella. Thank a lot 🙂
Something to eat later then !
What a lovely inspiration, Don. I’ve had a “breakfast” blog post on my list for quite a while now, named “US meets Switzerland”, meaning I would eat one toast with Texan honey and one toast with Swiss marmalade. That’s what I have when I get a little homesick 😉
English marmalade better than Swiss LOL … and yes do it and blog it 🙂
Oh is it? I’m sure i had marmalade during my stay in Cambridge but that’s been like 18 years ago so I can’t really remember, sorry. Though I do remember liking porridge and English toast LOL
Yes it is … I can only get Swiss marmalade here in Thailand, which is pretty good too … porridge ok once in a while and English toast depends on which bread !
Ah, i guess the stuff you get in Thailand is from Hero or Nestlé or some such company. Of course mum’s jam is the best anyway, never mind what country you’re from 😉
OK, I’ll let you have that one … and yes Hero …
🙂
Sour dough with Nutella & coffee! I’m in!
🙂
uh-oh… you had mommy at Mickey Mouse – snorts. XOXO – Bacon
LOL, was funny even though I didn’t get it !
Mommy is a HUGE Mickey Mouse fanatic… way beyond… you don’t want to know how big of a fan she is. That’s why – you had her at Mickey Mouse. All of the other you wrote was just blah blah blah MICKEY MOUSE. Snorts. XOXO – Bacon
OK, with you now, that makes entirely sense … Mickey Mouse is pretty popular here in thailand …
Sometimes we need to change 🙂
Change is good 🙂
I agree!!!
🙂
I dig the chocie spread right…but pray tell good sir….what is up with the schweppes AND coffee?
Terribly very interesting combination!
A bit like icecream and cheese and onion crisps (and smarties) 😛
Didn’t have any orange juice ?
And no it’s nothing like icecream and cheese and onion crips … are you pregnant ?
Thoroughly enjoyed the Schweppes washed down the nutella subs and then coffee for afters … oh and I put honey in all my hot drinks 🙂
Good substitute for orange 😀
No preggers hey – but it was a fav when I was 😉
Ok – so I am glad you clarified which way round it works – I was imagining the coffee with the nutella toast and THEN the schweppes – whiuch felt off somehow….:P
Now you put it that way around – it works out much better 😀 lol! Honey? mmmm – nice touch.
Glad you approve hun … it was delicious … saw your email …
Cool – checking in here whilst mulling it over yeah 😉
Oh jeepers – I MUST check my other folder for that other thing! FLIBBETY DIB – I nearly forgot again!!! Geees.
Right off to yahoo 😛
Spinning plates ?
Properly!!! Between littlens and the rest right. All good though 😉 Settling down a bit now. (for some reading etc..)
know the feeling, gonna get my last two posts in then bed … 2am here …
Ah surely?? Already? Sorry man! Wanted to get on and done before you’re end of day. Never mind…tomorrow will happen 😉 Take it easy dear – have a good rest.
😀
Mmmm… nice breakfast 😀 But this one is not look like a coffee, I thought it was a “cola cao” or “nesquick” (may be too much chocolate for a breakfast lol). May be here in Spain coffee is more dark, even with milk.
LOL, I like my coffee quite creamy, prefer real dairy cream … and coffee I’ve seen and tasted in various parts of Europe, the Italians probably my favourite …
i wanted to taste Italian coffee, people who have been there said me that it is delicious.
Yes I’ve enjoyed it in Italy and in London in soho they have an authetic Italian coffee shop …
🙂 watching your breakfast I feel like having a generous portion of Nutella me too, but I have none in my sideboard :-\
😀
go buy some then dude !
If I do, someone will constantly steal from that pot 🙂 🙂
Ah, you have a femi-thief in the house … oh well nevermind … cafe I’d suggest !
😀 😀 😀 Dear Don, yes, you’re utterly right…. Nutella is the real sensation in this sometimes dull life!! 🙂 Ok.. let’s say it.. I work for Ferrero 😀
LOL … you work for Ferrero ?
ehhh… I wish!!! 🙂 no I don’t ..
Make up your mind !
😀 😀 you’re right.. 😀 😀 I’m afraid to become fat!
With you on that one bro !
🙂 so.. ready, steady, go! Jogging, jogging and jogging 😛
Too hot for jogging here !
Oh.. I suppose it’s too hot even during evening time.. That would be a tragedy for my run-mania.. 🙂
Could go to gym, but costs money … I should be doing more exercise really, I’ll get back to it soon 😀
🙂 .. ok.. in the event I went to ThaiLand I’d subscribe to a gym 🙂 .. or I could swim.. yes.. I could swim.. any sharks there?? :-O
in the swimming pool ? only plastic ones !
😀 😀 😀 😀
😈
They are dangerous anyway!!! 😀 😀 😀
hmmm, not sure about that … sharks are rare in the sea where I am niko …
goooooooood to know 🙂 .. don’t worry, the fact is that my She-Organizer has just poured me a glass of red wine.. and no shark could harm me! 😛
God your beer-coat on, yes invincible !
😀 😀 😀 Thai God and Other Gods of entire Universe may bless you.
Ok, I’m officially drunk
LOL, cool by me dude … enjoy !
It’s bedtime for me but now I really want breakfast. 🙂
🙂 you can have it in the morning !
Genius. 🙂
😀
This made me smile as my son loves instagramming his weekend breakfasts!
LOL, well I’m just a newbie at blogging breakfasts !
That post brought a smile to my face as I measured my healthy berries and 0% fat Greek yoghurt, into a bowl, topped with a sprinkle of home-made sugar-free low GI granola! Your breakfast looked a lot more fun than mine. I must be a bit more decadent with my breakfast offerings.
I went to the Streets of Spain food festival on the South Bank yesterday, I’ll post some photos on your blog later (if they look OK). It was packed, sunny and overflowing with delicious – and at times – amazingly decadent food. For example, a favourite tea time snack for the merienda of tiny sandwiches filled with dulce del leche, then deep fried and covered with melted chocolate! I remember eating such when I spent 5 months in Spain as a teenager.
I’m a newbie here, so forgive the obvious question, but what are you doing in Thailand? Maybe you have this information elsewhere on your site, but I haven’t seen it. Have a good afternoon/evening . Susan 🙂
I’ve been to southbank food festivals ! As for the breakfast, there are benefits I’m sure in eating so healthily probably a lot in the waistline department 🙂 … I came out here for Scuba and never left – it’s warm and the people ARE friendly 🙂
Wow. Now that’s what we call a proper breakfast. But we’ll probably have hot coco instead of coffee and snapple instead of schweppes.
Thanks, and yes for sure, feel free to decide on your own ingredients 🙂
A lovely change of pace! You always have another surprised right around the corner! Bon apetit! 🙂
“anything is possible with Charisma” 🙂
“international” breakfast in Thailand…… with French bread of course !!! Bon appetit
😀
You are in Thailand? I like the country. Very nice people.
Yes, been here for a while … and very nice country and people are generally very good hearted 🙂
It’s been a long time since I went there, sadly
🙂 well I hope you get the chance again soon 🙂
Yummy it will inspire my breakfast 🙂
Just got up ?
Unwillingly I have to answer YES 🙂
A good night out then !
You would know. you are in Chonburi right? 🙂
LOL yup, but not out partying so much these days, haven’t got the stamina for it !
But the bear awakens when friends from abroad comes visiting right 😀
Yup, maybe, occasionally !
When you also like chocolate, the morning is the best time to consume that. Then you have the time for burning it in the day 🙂
At least you have found bread in Thailand. Breakfast without bread feels strange for me. Enjoy!
All makes good sense Irene, often I’m eating later in the day !
And yes we’re used to bread for breakfast in UK. The Thais seem to eat rice meals for breakfast, and Italian’s seem to like cake type breakfast …
The Nutella was Elaine’s idea, with croissants like she suggested is very good indeed 🙂
Here in Spain people do also like cake in the morning. They sell croissants with chocolate inside and a lot of other very sweet cakes.
I do prefer bread and cheese in the morning, maybe a piece of dark chocolate after to my coffee.
I’m quite changeable, but not really want to eat cake for breakfast, not too much … in sweden we had toast and cheese for breakfast … in uk normally toast with marmalade is a favourite of mine … occasionally I’ll make a vegetarian “fry-up”, but that’s a bit heavy for a busy day, so I just do once in a while 🙂
So now we know what you eat!
For breakfast yes … lunch/dinner I like Pizza, but often I eat a variety of other things !
Yes why the change, everything starts looking so similar no matter where you may be, a shame … Lovely post !
“anything’s possible with Charisma” … I did warn people from the beginning … just felt like blogging a breakfast, for trying something different … and thanks 🙂
Certainly something different and thanks for sharing. You have a good day !
U2 😀
