This is my first spot of bird photography. I have no idea what the bird is – I’m sure a birdwatcher would be able to identify this particular species for me.
I have a small variety of birds flitting around my garden, but it’s pretty hard to catch them mid flight like this. I guess it was just beginners luck.
The weekend is just beginning, and we are getting some entries for the Bank Holiday Weekend Sunset Challenge already. We will attempt to publish all entries, so make sure you get yours in before the end-of-Sunday deadline.

wow.. ❤
Thanks. 🙂
Superb photography. Have tried to do the same without success.
Just keep trying, and hope you’ll be lucky.
Perfect timing Danny! To think that some photographers set up a motor drive and churn out a boat load of images just to pull out one or two great shots and you nailed it in one sitting!
Thanks Steve, yes was pretty lucky. Whether I can get another shot is another matter altogether 🙂
Fantastic photo!! Well done on your steps into bird photography!
Thanks Sandra.
Pleased you liked it
A lovely shot! That’s the kind of photo I’m always after, but have only managed to get on very rare occasions.
I had the camera on sports setting, plus a bit of luck I think.
that is a great shot; patience around a bird feeder is always rewarded!
You’re right, although I fortunately didn’t have to wait to long to catch this one.
Thanks.
Very cool pic Danny! WOW!
Thanks.
Cool 😀
Love birds – this shot is gorgeous! 🙂
Thanks Jo
Great shot don. I’m not familiar with birds from your area, but I would say that it looks like some sort of sparrow. Where was this shot taken?
This was taken in the UK – it’s one of mine, not Don’s 🙂
My apologies Dan. I should have checked that. This is a Common Chaffinch. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Common_Chaffinch
Very pretty bird!
Ah, so that’s what it is. Thanks for that.
No Problem. 🙂

A birdwatcher 😉
Thanks for the double reblog…
Beautiful shot!
Thanks Lysa
Great shot, you’re a natural!
Thanks Tanya
Wow! That’s fantastic!
Thanks Susan
Looks like a Turtledove to me. We have a pair on our front porch and they are making quite a mess.

Lucky these are in the neighbours garden then 🙂
They do fly around. They are very docile.

Amazing shot of the bird, it’s always so difficult to get a good shot of birds in flight!
Thanks, I used the sports mode on my camera to get it.
Great beginners luck then, very pretty pictures.
Thanks, certainly lucky with it. Also lucky my neighbour put up some bird food.
Absolutely wonderful 🙂
Thanks Niko
🙂
Great shot! I tried to take a picture of bats in flight, not the easiest thing in the world to do.
I only managed to get this one on sports mode on my camera. Takes a whole load of shots to let you choose the best one.
Thanks.
Hey Don, Love this picture, not sure what kind of bird this is either but it’s perfect in flight shot. Can you tell me how you post both the shot and the magnified shot.I have a few pics that I would love to post but are better when brought in as you did. Thanks
I was hoping some bird spotters might know, but they haven’t come forward yet.
The first image you see is the Featured Image. When you edit a post you can set this down the right hand side. You also need to set the post type (also on the RHS) to IMAGE.
The second image is just added as usual with the Add Media button, but the size is set to Large – I think it defaults to medium.
This should give you the same sort of effect.
Good luck
this is your FIRST??? wow. utterly amazing capture!
Certainly was. Mind you, I had the camera on sports mode and might have been one of 100 I took in 2 short minutes.
That’s OK, though! I sometimes shoot with that setting for this very reason… you can get amazing stuff which you did. Absolutely worth the other hundred…
And doesn’t matter these days. Thank god for digital, no need to spend $$$ on developing anymore.
I know… imagine if those days suddenly returned?
I’d have to confiscate the camera from the kids then. They usually take 50 pictures of the tv, or their feet 🙂
50 shots of your feet, in various thought-provoking poses…it could work? with props?
A new art form? Maybe they’re future photographers after all.
the future will be holographs…of feet!
🙂
That is so awesome!
Thanks.
Birds are always a treat to watch. They always project peace…..
Although some of their song in the morning can be a little disturbing 🙂
Nice capture!!
Thanks Laura
LOVE 😀 I am a big fan of birds and am always taking photos of the ones in my backyard. These are fabulous!! Thanks for sharing
Thanks. It was my attempt shooting birds in flight. Came out pretty well.
A lovely shot.
Thanks KG
