One of the highlights of my visit to the RAF museum in London – the beautifully kept Mustang. This was one of the great fighter planes from the past, and has been given it’s own rotating platform at the museum to signify it’s importance. Built by America, powered by Rolls Royce.

I love the photo. I had the pleasure of personally knowing two P-51 pilots, one of whom was a member of the Tuskegee Airmen group. This has always been one of my favorite planes. Thanks for posting this.
Glad you liked it. I guess there aren’t too many of those guys out there anymore. Sadly, their own memories of those times will soon be lost.
I didn’t know the Tuskegee Airman was part of the group until his death. He didn’t talk about it when I was around him, and I don’t know if he did with others. The other guy was more open about his experiences, and that’s something I will always treasure.
One of the few fighters that stored enough fuel to accompany long-distance bombers.
Love that place. Once looked after a chap who’d spent years flying the Halifax and I didn’t realise until going to the museum and standing alongside one just how big and incredibly menacing it is. I commented as much to him and his reply was, “Aye I know lass…. tha’ wants to try geddin it off the last 20ft of bloody tarmac and sharpish. See what tha’ thinks then”
Yes, some of the planes in there are just amazing. I think they’ve done a fantastic job getting all the planes together.
