The Meaning of Life – Steven

This is cutting edge improvisational blogging. We call it –

“Whose Blog is it Anyway ?” 2 – The Unanswerables

We have written this for FUN, not serious, to amuse ourselves and our readers, and help promote our blogs. Please read with that in mind.

Commenters – Please DO NOT post outbound links whilst the event is going on AND please DO NOT post comments if you are a moron.

Whose Blog is it Anyway? 2 – The Unanswerables

Why “The Unanswerables” ? Because the titles assigned to my guest improvisers don’t have an exact scientific answer or they are just zany and off the wall.

Do not expect fact here. Do not expect the truth here. This is creative writing for FUN, HUMOUR and for those with a SENSE OF HUMOUR. It’s cutting edge IMPROVISED blogging, not science weekly or the historian’s gazette.

The guest improvisers were assigned titles by me, and are therefore NOT necessarily experts or even actually FOR the topic they are writing about. They all did however “YES, AND” the challenge which is the spirit of improvisation and what we’re doing here.

We’re not interested in your critical appraisal, it simply isn’t required. It is in fact IRRELEVANT to the context of improvised, for fun creative writing. Stop taking yourselves so seriously.

So without further ado …

Steven

His Lordship – The Marvelous Writer And Poet Extraordinaire

Steven is a very popular blogger, poet and author. He first came to my attention via a mutual friend blogger who’d entered one of his challenges.

Steven has a certain something, a ‘jun a c’est qui’. I could debate all day what that is, but let’s just say he’s talented and smart. He’s a young engineer who moonlights by night as a poet, writer and blogger.

I gave him quite a controversial title last time, he rose to the challenge. And an even more challenging title this time – once again my expectations have been surpassed.

You can find Steven at SFoxWriting’s blog.

Please give a warm welcome to Steven.

Cheers

Don Charisma

The Meaning of Life

Sunset Climber

Intro

Hello everyone. My name firstly is Steven Fox. I run the blog www.sfoxwriting.com which is fairly popular and I’m extremely glad that Don asked me to do this challenge. My blog focuses mainly on poetry, music, photography and general discussion topics. I’m 20 and from England and while some may write me off for my age I can confidently say they are wrong to do so. My main reason to start writing was to help myself with my depression which I did and now through my poetry and writing I hope to help others who may have been or are in a similar situation but less about me and into the topic at hand.

Improvisation

I was given the topic of “The meaning of life” from Don and blimey what a great topic to have been given. My aim over the next couple of paragraphs is to show you what I think the meaning of life is, and at the end give you a powerful question which will make you think a little , so let’s get into it.

Going back to ancient Greek times there are two philosophers on the subject Plato and his apprentice Aristotle. The both have similar thoughts as to what the meaning of life was. For Plato it was to gain the highest level of knowledge possible. Aristotle went one further however and said that gaining the highest level of knowledge simply isn’t enough as there will always be another level in which you can go to, so in order to gain all knowledge you must continue to learn until you know everything, so Aristotle’s meaning of life was to know everything about the world and all that inhabits it.

Less of the history lesson now. My opinion on the meaning of life is rather complex. You see with me I happen to have a rather strange belief system. While most people if they are Christian will believe that god created the world, and scientists will believe that the big bang is responsible, I happen to fall between the two a mixture of the best of both worlds if you like. Personally I believe that god created the force which is the big bang , however I do not believe god is a human force or is around now to change the path of people or the world around us. This however means I don’t believe in heaven or hell per say but I do think that there is another world which we go to when we die. When we get there I think rather than it being bad as in hell or heaven as in good its simply if you was bad in a previous life you start your next life disadvantaged and visa versa if you was seen as good.

Due to my religious feelings my meaning of life is that we should all try and be as good to others as we can. Any bad actions will always have a consequence and actions follow us around for eternity.

Another part of my meaning of life is for us to reproduce but its not quite as simple as that. Rather than just the animalistic act of reproduction I like to think that love and other feelings come into play. This is because happiness features heavily on my meaning of life and having a strong willed loving partner will in turn make yourself extremely happy. The result is a happy baby who then hopefully will continue the circle and remain happy.

I believe that in order to be truly happy you need to fill all your emotional outputs with fulfilment. So in terms of your job you need to be excited to get up every morning and not find it a drag. You need to get to a level of education and knowledge with means that whenever you are asked a question you know the answer or you know where the answer can be located.

You need to have friends and a social life in order to make sure that you are not alone and have access to more information which may not be educational based but form the foundations of how you further interact with people.
So wait for it here is my meaning of life.

The meaning of life is to grow up in a happy and strong environment which promotes healthy and strong relationships in the future. Possess a social life which is strong enough for your need for information which isn’t educational. Working life must keep you entertained and support a family at the same time. The need for education must be fully fulfilled so that your life never becomes stagnant. Finally you need to find a partner in this world which makes you feel safe, is supportive of everything you need and you feel as one with, so that when you have a baby it is wise, loving and strong. You need to have the correct mix of all the above in order to feel complete.

The meaning of life and judgement in the things that make up the meaning of life can be changed person by person but the fact of the matter is the same. The levels of the above things must be perfect in order to find the true meaning and output of life.

Happiness
Just think about how unfulfilled someone who spends their entire life being miserable and unhappy is.
So do you think the meaning of life is the same for everyone or is it on an individual basis?

Outro

Thank you for reading and I hope you at least partially agree with my meaning of life. Please leave a comment so I know how you feel on the subject and I’ll get back to you. I would like to lastly thank Don again for the opportunity and I hope I have done the challenge justice.

  1. Meaning of life is one of my favorite discussion when i was in college. Discussion base on Victor Frankl experience in WWII so he comes up with his book “Man, search for meaning”
Its very individual, glad to read Steven has find his way.

  2. chris thanks for thinking that i starting this project well , ill admit the topic was difficult for me . it is really nice that everyone seems to think i did well with it 🙂

  3. Well done, Steven. The meaning of life is different for everyone, but the desired affect the same. I think, maybe. Thanks for push for deep thoughts today. My favorite. 🙂 You are way ahead in the game of life.

    1. thanks for saying that im well ahead in the game of life 🙂 i like to think im doing fairly decent but i know i could be alot better 🙂 glad to have you following my work and i hope i continue to entertain you so.

    1. irene ive had these feelings about life for a long time now . im glad that others can see from outside that im grounded. thank you for your kind words 🙂

  4. Lovely post, Steven, and I absolutely agree that everyone will have an individual view about the meaning of life – I agree with yours though. Happiness is the key 🙂

  5. PS I think it’s an individual experience of truth, so I think it’s individual meaning that each person assigns to life … on the plus side we get to make it up ourselves if we don’t listen too much to bullshitters 🙂

  6. Great post. I am finding there are more people out there that hold these same values and feelings on being a good person. The “Do unto others as you would have done to you” is a good starting point in life. You have someone to teach this concept and that can only be gained through socialization. Another thing people often forget is “What goes around comes around”. I don’t like being on the receiving end of bad stuff so I try to put out good stuff.

I enjoyed your take on the “Meaning of Life”.

  7. Steven – a good strong name – with good strong outlook to go with it. Love your concept and feelings etc on this topic – AND you tied it all together beautifully! Great write chap 😀 What a great start to the event!

    1. thanks very much 🙂 and i agree my name is strong 😉 im glad you thought i formatted the post well and i offered a good start to the event 🙂

  8. We were just talking about the need for social interaction at my group the other night. I am an ex-online gaming addict….THERE, I’ve said it! Long story, but it’s sad that a lot of kids in their 20’s have been sitting on an xbox their entire life and are unable to socialize! In a world where RL (real life) is used to designate the rest of us vs their game, it’s a sad state of affairs.

    1. social interaction is crucial for a full like .. im 20 but im a ps3 guy rather than xbox 😉

  9. Wise words from one so young! Super first post for what should be an outstanding series. Nice to see the circle-of-life concept being given it’s due.

  10. I agree with your every word, Steven. Thank you! No longer must I sit in the corner sucking my thumb and contemplating the meaning of it all. Seriously, though, be a good person, a good citizen and a good friend, and happiness should follow. Good impro, Mr. Fox.

    1. thanks mark 🙂 im glad you enjoyed it . and there is nothing wrong with sitting in the corner sucking your thumb
