Don Charisma Review – My “First” Review

It’s always good to hear positive things said about oneself and what one is doing. Maybe not technically exactly my first review, but Sean Munger has certainly been able to describe me very well from an outside perspective.

Here’s what Sean wrote :

Most Fun Blog: Don Charisma

Don Charisma is another blog that I don’t remember how or why I followed, but which has been a source of more than a few grins and laughs over the past few months. This is a very eclectic, mostly light-hearted blog without a real unifying theme, although Don does post a lot of travel photos. The articles, when not presenting interesting pics of far-flung locales, range the gamut from an amusing indictment of Windows 8 to a lesson in “troll potency.” I was entertained recently by Don’s exchange with a blog reader unhappy at what he perceived was a surfeit of “Buddahs,” which most of the other readers who chimed in (including me) seemed to like. Oh well, no accounting for taste! Anyway, this is a very fun blog and one I look forward to reading each time I click on my WordPress reader.

Sean Munger – http://seanmunger.com/2013/12/30/my-blog-awards-for-2013/

Very well and eloquently put Sean, thank you, you are welcome on my blog any time. Congratulations on your awards. I hope that we will stay in touch in 2014 🙂

So what is Don Charisma’s blog about ?

My blog is and always will be largely about positivity and charisma. It’s my personal and professional blog, and my preference is to lead by example. Sometimes I do teach, and I am happy always to answer specific questions.

Travel blog, I am not. Geek blog I am not. Photography blog I am not. Poetry or writing blog I am not. Ad infinitum.

Reason – I reckon readers are more interested in what Google would call “thin content”, that is eclectic blogs rather than a blog specifically about SEO, Photography, Geek stuff etc. It’s the broadness that makes for a good blog, in my opinion obviously. Also it means I never get bored.

A Miley Cyrus blog I would be bored before I even started. An SEO blog I’d get bored probably a few weeks. A poetry blog my readers would get bored after a couple of posts, because I’m not a poet, well not at the moment anyway. A glamorous women blog, well probably never get bored with that one 🙂 … maybe I’ll do that one next year, Don Charisma for the next Hugh Hefner!

Bottom line is it’s also the man that makes the blog, not what he puts on it, within reason of course. Same for all the blogs I like, I like the bloggers, not that we always have specific blog topics that we’re compatible on, but they are good people that I like. Out of the thousands of people who I know here on WordPress, there is every kind of blog under the sun, and, for me, shared interests are a bonus not a necessity.

Friendship and solidarity, not fighting and pettiness, one is for big people, the other is for tiny people.

For those that “don’t get me” – oh well, never mind, go and find some blogs you do like, WordPress has some 65000000 or more 🙂

Happy New Year

Don Charisma

  1. Happy New Year!! 🙂 Read a couple of your posts and I am sure to be reading a more in the next one hour.. They are full of life, at least that is how they make me feel.. And no better way to start a New Year. Thanks for your follow.. Looking forward to reading more of you. Cheers!

  2. Like always your posts are awesome! Love your blog. Ever since you started following me and I followed you, your blog has inspired me very much. My biggest wish is that my blog gets kown more and becomes more popular..but reading is not that popular and my posts only get three to six likes…I just know that maybe I can do it.

    1. Thankyou 🙂

This is my first post on WordPress in July last year – https://doncharisma.org/2013/07/01/doncharisma-strength/

Only has 8 likes, including me liking it myself …

My point is that there are more than 60 million blogs here on WordPress.com, things do take time, and do take effort in promoting oneself, but rewards do come. I’ve written a couple of posts to help new bloggers here – https://doncharisma.org/2013/10/31/virgins-guide-to-promoting-a-blog-or-website-ethos-part-2/ and here – https://doncharisma.org/2013/08/30/virgins-guide-to-promoting-a-blog-or-website-on-google/ which you might find useful.

Be patient, enjoy what you’re doing as the means and the end itself. Then it doesn’t matter the number of likes or pageviews, you’re doing what you enjoy, so happy anyway:)

And also not best idea to compare one’s blog with other people’s blog too much. Reason, you don’t know how much time, experience and money they’ve spent on what they are doing, or how many people working on it. Just do the best you can, that shines through anyway.

Lastly in these social days, it’s friends and alliances that will help your blog reach a larger audience. I have many friends here and take the time to cultivate friendship. We help each other. I recently did a review of a friend’s blog irenedesign2011.wordpress.com … another friend Suz is currently interviewing blogger friends. When it’s “quiet” venture out and see what other’s are doing, comment, reblog etc

There are many opportunities here, I use my creativity daily to find them 🙂

Hopefully helpful and sorry if you’re a one who doesn’t like unasked-for advice !

      Happy new year

      DC

      1. Thank you so much for the advice!! No I love taking advice from people…it helps me know more and learn.

You are a great person and blogger..thanksbagain for the help. It made me feel better.

  3. I, for one, can’t remember why I started following you Don. Probably the charisma in the blog. But I’ve love it from the beginning, so kudos from a KY angel. And I do love my logo. And my new award. So, in your honor, I’m going to try to create my own award.. NOTE: I said “try”. So wish me luck on that one.

    1. Good luck, I can help with the badge if you find me a copyright free angel, preferably a vector .AI, .EPS, .SVG file, but a .JPG or .GIF or .PNG should be fine too …

  4. You wrote “Bottom line is it’s also the man that makes the blog, not what he puts on it, within reason of course. I find it easiest to mix and mingle with a variety of people on Twitter and am eager to learn how to connect in a similar way via my blog. So thanks for reaching out and liking my post at http://familyanswersfast.wordpress.com/ and I look forward to connecting more. Happy New Year!

    1. Hey Angie, thanks for that 🙂

I reckon mostly just be friendly, most people will reciprocate, dump the morons at the first possible opportunity and it’s plain sailing …

Do keep in touch, and I do my best to answer any specific questions if you have them 🙂

      Warm regards

  5. Argh, for some reason the “like” button isn’t working this morning! But thanks for the kind shout out, and keep doing what you’re doing!

    1. Mine wasn’t working either seanmunger, then I decided to Clear the history from my browser and “Like” came alive again 😀

  6. I like reading this blog. I may not agree with everything you post, but I love that you are never disagreeable in the manner with which you post it. Hope 2014 is an even more prosperous year for you.

    1. Thanks Sharon, very kind. I try to keep it positive and upbeat, occasionally have a moan or some annoyances, but hey I’m human !

Hope 2014 a great year for both of us …

      Warm regards

      DC

  7. Happy New Year! I like that your blog is about many topics, so defying the advice of so-called “social media experts” who say we should focus on a certain subject and audience…

  8. Sean Munger was spot-on with this review, I like that you’re eclectic, it’s never boring. I love that WP is such a great community with fellow bloggers that that support each other. Good luck in the new year, Don!
